Meet the goats and sheep at Pennyroyal Farm
A tour and cheese and wine tasting at Pennyroyal Farm in the Anderson Valley
Join owner Deborah Cahn, AB'70, to meet the goats and sheep of Pennyroyal Farm and get a first hand look at how the cheese is produced. After, sit down to a paring of cheeses with Pennyroyal and Navarro wines.
Deborah graduated from UChicago in 1970 with a degree in English literature, and then attended UC Berkeley for her MA. In 1973 she traded in pastoral poetry for pastoral reality when she and her husband purchased a sheep ranch in the Anderson Valley, planted grapes, and started Navarro Vineyards.
Pennyroyal Farm, Navarro’s sister ranch eight miles down the road, is managed by Deborah’s daughter, and produces farmstead cheese as well as wine. Deborah’s tour will include a visit to the Pennyroyal barn, milking parlor, creamery, and conclude with a patio tasting of cheese as well as a unique opportunity to compare and contrast the wines that are made in the Navarro Deep End and the Boonville Pennyroyal end of the Anderson Valley. We will include a discussion of how our family’s farming practices have changed over the past 45 years.
A Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir juice tasting is available for children and non drinkers. Wear sturdy shoes and a hat.
